Overview
Veterans often face challenges in expressing the complexities of their post-service experiences. To bridge the empathy gap between veterans and younger generations, Wounded Warrior Project launched Warriors On Board. This initiative empowered 11 veterans to design custom skateboard decks, each reflecting their personal journey of healing and growth. By fusing art therapy with skate culture, the campaign created a platform for veterans to share their stories in a medium resonant with Gen Z audiences.

Problem
Bridging the generational disconnect between veterans and Gen Z.
With veterans comprising only 6% of the U.S. population, many young Americans lack direct connections to military service, leading to a gap in understanding and empathy. Traditional narratives often fail to engage younger audiences, necessitating innovative approaches to storytelling that resonate with their values and interests.

Solution
Solution
Harnessing art and skate culture to tell veterans' stories.
Warriors On Board centered around 11 veterans who each created a unique skateboard design, serving as a visual narrative of their personal experiences. These designs were showcased on a dedicated microsite, WarriorsOnBoard.org, featuring in-depth stories and artist statements. To amplify reach, the campaign collaborated with influencers like pro skater Ryan Sheckler and adaptive skater Harley Meagley, who shared the initiative across social platforms. Additionally, a sweepstakes distributed 1,000 of these veteran-designed skateboards to the public, fostering tangible connections between recipients and the veterans' stories.
